Championship Points System Revised

Time Attack Championship Points System Receives Major Overhaul

Starting this season, the way teams earn championship points at each event is getting a complete makeover.

Since 2006, our points system stayed the same – until now. We’ve completely rethought the championship’s structure to drive teams towards even greater performance and consistency.

Under the new format, teams must ensure their cars are not only present in every session but also perform consistently well throughout the day to gather points. Previously, the focus was almost entirely on the final session, which meant that earlier sessions were mostly just for setup.

From the 2025 season onward, drivers will earn points in every session, including a participation point just for the warm-up. This change means that anyone aiming for the championship will need to compete in every session and maintain top form throughout – not only showcasing speed but also reliability.

For full details on the revised points structure, please refer to page 5 of the 2025 championship regulations available here.

Time Attack Championship Coordinator Andy Barnes explains, “This new points system is designed to reward high performance, commitment, and reliability, fundamentally changing how our sport has been run and scored since 2005. In the past, only the final lap time was rewarded, and we’ve long wanted to address this imbalance. With our 20th anniversary approaching, it’s the perfect time to introduce a scoring method that not only transforms how points are earned but also revolutionises our running. ‘

The first event of 2025 kicks off at Cadwell Park on Bank Holiday Monday 5th May.
