This season will bring many firsts for the Championship and this is just one of those.
Essex based specialists Airtec have just taken delivery of a brand new Volkswagen Golf R and have immediately entered it into Time Attack’s road going class – Clubman. This is the first time a factory-fresh car has been entered by a tuner as a starting point for tuning and appears to be the start of something much bigger as more tuners turn towards Time Attack as a testing ground for performance.
For Cadwell Park, the only upgrades will be the official Time Attack sticker pack given that the road-going class requires very little modifications to a street car.
The purpose of the entry according to Alan Shepherd, Airtec’s boss is to get a baseline of existing performance from the car with a view to introducing a new line of products for the model and its future customers, he says ‘ We know that what we learn from our cars participation in Time Attack can give us a greater understanding of the products we can develop for each model in our range at Airtec. We are running the Golf R to do exactly that, to find areas where we feel we can improve it for both our road and track customers in future. As we introduce parts for the car, we will use Time Attack as a basis to show the improvements our catalogue products are making throughout the season.’
He goes on ‘ We also have further brand new cars on order and will do the same for those when we receive them – we have some exciting plans and new products lined up for this year and it is great to share those tests, plans and improvements on track during one of the toughest competitions for any road and track car – Time Attack ‘
The car will be on show at the Airtec pit area throughout the event at Cadwell Park and the guys at Airtec welcome visitors to view and discuss the car and their program of improvements.
